Picoron Castle
At Château Picoron, we explore the potential of Merlot, cultivated in our 4.5-hectare vineyard, which is currently being converted to organic farming. Our wines are not blended. Each cuvée is a wine... Estate Anecdotes: "We celebrate the past and future of Merlot, the first grape variety planted in Bordeaux. However, we must adapt to climate change. Therefore, we do not seek to control our ecosystem, but rather to adapt to it." The Estate's Story: Our wines are made from single-vineyard selections and are not blended. They reflect a specific place: the renowned clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. We produce only a few hundred cases. The result is a unique expression of our terroir. We believe that nature is our best ally. When it comes to producing wines, we believe that less means more: fewer additives, less intervention; we do not try to change what nature gives us. Our wines are produced sustainably, in conversion to organic farming, without animal products and with minimal intervention. By challenging traditional winemaking techniques with creativity, we produce wines that reflect who we are. We craft wines by hand that celebrate the past while inspiring the next generation. Winemaking on our estate began 2,000 years ago and was carried on by the Picoron family from 1570 onwards. Since 2015, Glenda & Frank Kalyk and our Australian family have continued this legacy, celebrating the past and future of the Bordeaux region. At Château Picoron, we don't reproduce, we innovate. We don't seek comparison but rather to produce wines that are true to ourselves, to be shared with friends and family. We experiment, we create. Our wines are a unique expression of Merlot, inspired by, and not constrained by, classic winemaking techniques. By breaking the mold, we've found the freedom to invent and showcase the full potential of the Merlot grape. At Château Picoron, we're proud to explore the potential of Merlot. Our wines are made from grapes in conversion to organic farming and vinified with minimal intervention and inputs, using a parcel-by-parcel system. With the help of Stéphane Derenoncourt, our incredible team, Glenda & Frank, and their family invite you to think about and taste Bordeaux wines in a new way.
