Clos de l'Amandaie
In the heart of the Montpellier Sandstone garrigue, nestled amidst Mediterranean flora, on the coolest part of the appellation, Clos de l'Amandaie unfolds like a verdant carpet at the foot of a mineral landscape. Anecdotes from the estate: Since 2010, Stéphanie and Philippe have been making wine in their new cellar, built of Gard stone, its architecture perfectly in harmony with the terroir thanks to natural materials and its photovoltaic roof. Following meticulous plot selection, the estate now encompasses 30 hectares of vines cultivated organically. A brief history of the estate: The sixth generation of the Peytavy family now manages the estate. Clos de l'Amandaie, located in the commune of Aumelas, has been developed successively by each member of the family, who have added their personal touch. In 1968, Gisèle and Louis passed the torch to Yolande and Jacques. The couple chose to have their harvests vinified at the cooperative winery in the neighboring village until their son and his wife decided to take over winemaking at the estate. Philippe and his wife, Stéphanie, grew up while Philippe's grandfather made wine at the estate. For him, there was no other choice but to continue this tradition, which is very important to him. They revitalized the 20 hectares of vines on the estate and continued to develop it. Later, the couple decided to work in a way that respects the biodiversity present in the vineyard: sustainable farming practices, selective bud thinning, reduced yields, and no insecticides. The pride of the estate: Our estate is located near Montpellier. At Domaine du Clos de l'Amandaie, we work our 30-hectare vineyard as a family. Planted on the sloping hillsides of the Causse d'Aumelas, the vines produce wines under the Coteaux du Languedoc and Grès de Montpellier appellations. Stéphanie and Philippe cultivate their wines on clay-limestone soils and benefit from a unique microclimate that imparts distinctive and complex aromas to their wines. The vineyard is influenced by Mediterranean flora: the vines are almost entirely grassed, and the greenery contrasts with the surrounding mountains.
