Mas Farchat

Languedoc

Anecdotes from the Estate: Being a winemaker means planting a vine, waiting three years for its first harvest, and then waiting several more years for it to produce great wines. In the meantime, a great deal of work and patience is required. It means trusting nature, the terroir, and oneself in all the choices involved. I love wines with a beautiful aromatic complexity, wines that need to be nurtured and aged patiently so that I can then share this beautiful story with my customers. The Estate's Story: When I took over the estate, I embarked on the exciting adventure of winemaking, as my father was a member of a cooperative. I wanted to create wines that reflected the identity of their terroir. So, I let this basalt terroir, which is typical of our AOC, produce wines with aromas of red and black fruits and spices, intervening very little in the winemaking process. My second wish was to combine my childhood passion, horses, with my profession! It's now a reality, as the estate bears the breeding prefix of my first horse, and a wine has even been named after him: Rouky de Farchat. I'm particularly proud to have seen the first vintage of my Genèse cuvée featured in a gourmet restaurant, a wonderful encouragement for the future. The 2017 harvest allowed me to expand my wine range, notably with the creation of a white AOC wine: L'Ecrin Blanc. 2018 is the year of further development; a gravity-flow winery has just been built, allowing me to vinify new and beautiful wines! The pride of the Le Mas Farchat estate lies in the Languedoc vineyards, in the Pézenas terroir. We practice sustainable agriculture to respect the natural environment in which the flora and fauna thrive. We spread composted horse manure, from horses fed exclusively on Crau hay, which enriches the soil we strive to keep alive! We only have small plots, from 30 ares to 1.5 hectares for the largest, which facilitates the manual work which is very important on our estate, especially the harvest. Our plots are planted on sunny hillsides, they produce little but that is our intention: quality takes precedence over quantity.
