Our opinion on the cuvée
This Saint-Estèphe boasts a deep purple color and a subtle nose blending woody notes with black and red fruits, as well as a hint of maturity. On the palate, the wood dominates the fruit, with fine tannins and well-balanced acidity, resulting in a flavorful and harmonious whole. Ideal for pairing with flavorful red meats such as lamb, pigeon, or ostrich, this wine will be enjoyable to drink through 2026.
L'Argilus du Roi is a human-scale property within the Saint-Estèphe appellation, established in 2004 and taken over in 2010 by Martial Mignet, a passionate viticulture enthusiast. The estate prioritizes a long-term vision, combining respect for winemaking tradition, the land, and the plant, while integrating modern vinification methods.
With only 5 hectares of vines, L'Argilus du Roi is among the smallest châteaux in the appellation and produces a limited number of bottles of its single grand vin. Sustainable agriculture is practiced, and grape sorting is highly selective to preserve the wine's elegance and quality.
The parcels rest on a typical Saint-Estèphe terroir, composed of gravel, pebbles, and sand, in proximity to the Gironde. The estate claims complete mastery of the production chain, ensuring a demanding wine that stands proudly alongside the great neighbors of the Médoc.
