Orange wines
Orange wines are wines that dare to venture into the unknown! Somewhere between white and red, they intrigue as much as they fascinate. These wines are made from white grape varieties, but undergo extended maceration with the skins—sometimes for several days or weeks—which gives them a unique amber or orange color and intense aromas.
How do you make orange wine?
This process, known as skin maceration, extracts tannins, aromas, and color from the grapes. The longer the maceration, the more structured and complex the wine becomes. Depending on the desired style, the result can be light and fresh orange wines or powerful, tannic ones.
Grape Varieties and Terroirs
Traditional grape varieties include Chenin, Sauvignon, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Malvoisie, and sometimes other local varieties. The terroir and the winemaker have a huge influence on the final product: minerality, aroma, and length on the palate. Every bottle is unique.
Aromas and Tasting Notes
Orange wines offer notes of dried fruit, candied citrus, spices, honey, and sometimes dried flowers. On the palate, they are often structured by light tannins, which makes them similar to reds, while retaining the freshness of whites.
