Expert Opinion
This is somewhat the 'atypical' among our champagnes. Crafted using a technique rarely employed in Champagne, the grapes are destemmed and macerated for several days to achieve a color and aromas that make it a unique wine. This champagne is produced only in the best years. On the wine side, it presents a ruby color. Powerful aromas revealing notes of strawberries, raspberries, and blackcurrants.

Champagne Olivier Marteaux

Champagne | France

In the Marne Valley, Olivier Marteaux crafts champagnes that defy standardized profiles. Here, the work is done on a human scale, with constant attention paid to the balance and personality of the wines. The desired style prioritizes the expression of the grape and terroir rather than mere effect or ostentation.

The calling of a winemaker became clear to him at a very young age. Olivier grew up in the vineyards, accompanying his parents and grandparents, then trained at the Avize wine school before gaining extensive experience in various estates. This journey now informs a thoughtful approach, rooted in tradition and observation.

The estate's history began in the 1950s when Olivier's grandfather established a vine nursery, grafting his own rootstock before planting the family's first parcels. His father continued the endeavor, gradually expanding the vineyard across several villages in the Marne Valley. Olivier took over in the 2000s, committed to evolving the estate while preserving its foundations.

Vineyard management is based on sustainable viticulture, guided by a simple principle: the land is protected because it is passed down through generations. This philosophy is reflected in unique, precise Champagnes that aim less to immediately captivate than to tell a coherent story. These are sincere cuvées, crafted for those who appreciate venturing off the beaten path.
