Château de Fontenay

Château de Fontenay

Loire | France

Located in Touraine, on the banks of the Cher, Château de Fontenay is an estate whose viticultural history dates back to the late 17th century. The first vines are documented as early as 1680, while the château, rebuilt at the end of the 19th century after a fire, now forms an ancient heritage complex at the heart of a wooded park.

The estate was taken over in 2006 by the Carli family, who partnered with Didier Corby, already in charge of the vineyard as an artisan winemaker. This collaboration fostered a continuity of style, based on respect for previous work and a faithful interpretation of the Touraine terroirs. Vineyard management adheres to a sustainable approach, mindful of the environment and soil longevity.

The vines extend over clay-sandy soils, typical of the Cher riverbanks, which promote gradual ripening and a clean aromatic expression. The proximity of the waterway creates a temperate microclimate, conducive to a balance between freshness and aromatic development. Loire grape varieties find a clear expression here, without seeking excessive extraction.

In the cellar, winemaking aims for clarity and coherence rather than ostentation. Aging is adapted to each cuvée to preserve the fruit and terroir identity, in a style faithful to the typicity of Touraine. Each wine is conceived as a precise interpretation of its origin, with attention paid to balance and legibility.

Château de Fontenay thus stands as a discreet yet consistent estate within the Touraine vineyard, where the site's history, human continuity, and respect for the terroir enable the production of wines deeply rooted in their landscape, consistent, and representative of their appellation.
