La Coume-Lumet

La Coume-Lumet

Languedoc

Located on the heights of Cépie, about ten kilometers from Limoux, La Coume-Lumet is nestled within a preserved landscape, at the heart of a 54-hectare estate classified Natura 2000. Isolated and contiguous, the vineyard occupies a small natural amphitheater – 'la coume' in Occitan – with 17 hectares of vines clinging to the hillsides, bathed in light and open to the Aude valley and the Pyrenees.

The estate's name alone encapsulates its location and intention: 'Coume' for the relief, 'Lumet' for the light. This unique situation allows for the combination of several climatic influences. The Mediterranean climate brings maturity and generosity to grape varieties like Syrah, Grenache, and Merlot, while fresher, oceanic influences promote tension and acidity, ideal for the Chardonnay, Chenin, and Mauzac that make up the estate's Crémant.

Vineyard management is sustainable, with particular attention paid to the soils and observation of nature, in the spirit of the Terra Vitis label. In the cellar, the choices are clear: the Maset de Lumet cuvées favor stainless steel and low temperatures to preserve freshness and aromatic vibrancy, while the Coume-Lumet cuvées spend nine months in barrels. The Crémant is crafted using the traditional method, brut and expressive, with eighteen months of aging on lees before disgorgement.

The estate's history is primarily one of reconversion and encounter. Luc and Isabelle discovered the region in the early 2000s, then developed their project over several years, supported by a close oenologist. In 2012, they found this place with its evident energy and gave birth to La Coume-Lumet. A young estate, built on curiosity, respect for the environment, and a gourmet approach to wine, designed for both dining and sharing.
